Sure, the guy was in a Porsche but, *** he was going 172mph!
The fastest motorist ever to be caught speeding in Britain, Tim Brady, 33, from Harrow, has been jailed for ten weeks after he was caught driving a Porsche 911 Turbo at 172mph in Oxfordshire.
The delivery driver admitted dangerous driving to Oxford Crown Court after he was clocked in January by a police constable at a random speed check on the A420 near Abingdon. The judge also banned him from driving for three years and ordered him to pay £474 costs, adding that his driving was “criminally self indulgent”.
Brady was a delivery driver at luxury car hire firm called Helphire, based in Kingston Bagpuize. He had a colleague with him when he allegedly took the 911 out on the 172mph run, on his day off when he did not have permission to drive the car. Bosses at Helphire had previously refused to let Brady drive the 911, the court was told.
In his defense, Brady’s lawyer described his speeding as “foolhardy, stupid and done in a moment of weakness”.
Previously, the fastest recorded speed resulting in a conviction was 156mph, set by Aberdeen car dealer Jason McAllister.
